2020-21 CoSIDA Publication and Digital Design Contest Deadlines and Coordinators

2020-21 Publications & Digital Design Contest Descriptions

Conference Guides: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for conference guides. This contest would include preseason preview and postseason review publications (not postseason tournament programs – see special programs) in all sports, but is not intended for record books or generic listings of number/record-oriented material. This contest is also not intended for newsletters and other conference periodicals.

Football Guides: Three divisions are offered for football guides – Football Bowl Series, Football Championship Series and College Division. These are preseason publications that are produced once a year and have a primary purpose of providing information to the media.

Media Guide Contests: Two divisions (University and College) for the sports of baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball and women’s volleyball the contest is for preseason publications that are produced once a year and have a primary purpose of providing information to the media. Combined men’s and women’s publications may be entered in either that sport’s contest or the Multi-Sport Guide contest, but not both. In non-gender-separated contests, an entrant could have two entries, both of which could place in this contest.

At-Large Guide Contests: Two divisions (University and College) for sports that do not have their specific contest are available in fall/winter and spring contests. Fall/Winter includes: Bowling, Cross Country, Equestrian, Fencing, Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Rifle, Skiing, Swim & Dive, Water Polo [M], Wrestling. Spring includes: Golf, Rowing, Lacrosse, Tennis, Track & Field, Water Polo [W]. If your sport is not listed among the above sports, please submit to the category in which your sport primarily competes. These are for preseason publications that are produced once a year and have a primary purpose of providing information to the media. Combined men’s and women’s publications may be entered in either this contest or the Multi-Sport Guide contest, but not both. In non-gender-separated contests, an entrant could have two entries, both of which could place in this contest.

Multiple Sport Guides: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for guides or guides that include more than one sport or men’s and women’s sports of the same type combined (not necessarily a co-ed sport). These are preseason publications that are produced once a year and have a primary purpose of providing information to the media. An entrant could have multiple entries, several of which could place in this contest.

Postseason Guides: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for postseason books, pamphlets, or guides. These are publications that are produced by an institution to provide information to the media about a season just past that has resulted in postseason play. Entries from the postseason of the previous academic year are allowed for all spring championships, which could not be entered in last year’s contest. An entrant could have multiple entries, several of which for conference publications.

Game Notes: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for game notes. These are changing publications that are produced for each game or group of games and have a primary purpose provide a preview of a game/match. Game notes are produced for each game throughout the season. There are three separate contests for both divisions – fall sports, winters sports and spring sports. Three versions (updates) of game notes are required for judging.

Game Programs: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for game programs. These are changing publications that are produced for each home game or group of home games and have a primary purpose of resale to the attending public. Programs that are produced as a single-issue program to be sold throughout the season (no changing copy) should be entered in the special programs category. Three versions (updates) of game programs are required for judging.

Special Event Programs: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for special issue/single event publications. These are publications that are produced for special events and intended for sale or distribution to the general public. Single issue programs that cover an entire season also would fit into this category. This would apply for football, basketball, hockey, etc. An entrant could have multiple entries, several of which could place in this contest.

Single-Sport Programs: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for programs produced in sports other than football or basketball. These are changing publications that are produced for each home game and have a primary purpose of resale to the attending public. Any sport that has 20 or more entries two years in a row will evolve into its own contest. An entrant could have multiple entries, several of which could place in this contest. Three versions (updates) of single-sport programs are required for judging.

Infographic Athlete/Award Feature: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for this infographic contest. These are In-House produced graphics (non-motion) used to promote an athlete, athlete’s performance or award(s) through social media outlets.

Infographic Program/Game Feature: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for this infographic contest. These are In-House produced graphics (non-motion) used to promote a program or game through social media outlets.

Infographic Event Feature: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for this infographic contest. These are In-House produced graphics (non-motion) used to promote an event, such as (but not limited to) hall of fame induction or signing day. Multiple submissions using the same template will be judged as one submission.

Motion Graphics/GIFs: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for motion graphics/GIFs. These are In-House produced motion graphics used to promote an athlete, program, game and/or event through social media outlets.

Online Magazines: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for online magazines. These are publications that are produced by an institution intended for distribution to the general public and viewed through the web or mobile apps.

Posters: Five divisions (football, basketball, along with fall, winter and spring sports) are offered for posters on the University division. All of the college division posters are in one contest. These are publications that are produced to promote some aspect of the athletic program and distributed for general use by media, team members and fans or any combination of the same. An entrant could have multiple entries, several of which could place in this contest.

Video Program/Athlete Feature: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for this video feature contest, with entries ranging from recruiting to program or athlete in-depth storytelling. If your video submission does not fit within hype/pregame or highlight categories, submit it in this category. All video entries must be developed In-House and not from an outside agency.

Video Hype/Pregame Feature: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for this video feature contest, where entries are focused on pregame or “hype” videos. This can include in-stadium/arena videos starting lineup videos, or a single-event video. All video entries must be developed In-House and not from an outside agency.

Video Highlight Feature: Two divisions (University and College) are offered for this video feature contest, where entries are focused on game, practice or event highlights. All video entries must be developed In-House and not from an outside agency.
