Having spent his career working alongside SIDs, Coach Potter understands the demands and pressures of our profession, and will shares practical ideas to help everyone train their brain, be able to practice mental health and wellness strategies, and increase your mental toughness so you can reach your ultimate potential. In their motivational speaking, the Potters are on a crusade to educate and encourage others suffering from mental illness to seek assistance.  Coach Potter’s message is that “mental toughness” is a missing link in our society, and if we don’t take time to invest in our thoughts, we will not see change in the continued increase of depression, anxiety and suicide in our communities.

We’ll take live questions from the audience. At this time, we’ll also announce the new slate of officers and Board members for 2020-21 and conduct our annual convention business meeting. What are the most effective ways to synchronize our work with the current needs and long-term goals of the athletics department? How can each athletic communications professional, and CoSIDA, as an organization, help ADs and commissioners further understand and appreciate the value of SIDs?

Game Notes: Going Beyond the Basics Monday, June 8, 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Mariners A-B Panelists will discuss components to add to your game notes that go beyond the basic information like rosters, schedules and season statistics. They will provide examples of elements to use that the media can employ in their print or broadcasts that ultimately will benefit your program and student-athletes.
Visual Storytelling Monday, June 8, 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM Tradewinds A-D How can we find a good feature story idea? How can we include student-athletes in the process? When should we use feature stories? How to stop writing the same story over and over again? How can short videos be helpful on social? How to get features in the local/national media?

This panel provides real life examples from all levels of college athletics that will help you utilize your staff efficiently and how to train, maximize, and retain student workers and how to maximize your small, medium or large office staff at all levels. We’ll discuss what challenges come with each type of office, time and staff management, best ways to utilize your student workers and how to make it through a long or difficult stretch when you're short-staffed. Other topics: getting your student staff to buy into their roles, find value in their assigned positions, and feel a sense of ownership in the department’s overall mission.   • NCAA Sponsored Session: TBA   • Retention and Survival This panel will discuss reasons individuals may be leaving the SID profession and how to alleviate some of those concerns. In addition, we will talk about how to keep your job interesting and prevent burnout.

College Athletics Roulette: A Town Hall, Vegas Style Wednesday, June 10, 4:15 PM - 5:10 PM Mandalay Bay Ballroom E Spin and discuss! During this joint session between CoSIDA, NACMA, and NACDA, the prize wheel will be spun and all numbers will correspond to topics on the screen, each relating to a hot topic or trend in college athletics. Panelists and the audience will then have a chance to discuss. There will be subtopics of social media, writing/editing, hiring students and staff, crisis scenarios and more … again, spin and discuss! Join us for a lively, pertinent final session of the convention … along with giveaways and promotional items.

Wednesday, June 10, 9:00 - 9:30 AM; 9:45 - 10:15 AM; 10:30 - 11:00 AM Topics • Advocating Is a Two-Way Street: How CoSIDA Advocates For Our Members, And The Best Ways For You To Advocate For Yourself Presented by the CoSIDA Advocacy Committee   • App Attack We’ll review the best apps for covering an event, time management hacks, and more - all totally from your mobile device.   • Changing Sports Media Landscape In College Sports How to challenge yourself in doing things differently, “when we’ve always done it this way…”. Also, how to get the rest of the athletic department staff on-board.   • Families, Sports and Balance Learn from athletic communicators at all levels on how to balance family, travel, work, and late nights. Hear how they deal with family events, children, their time in the office, while continuing to produce great work on behalf of the student-athletes and their university/conference.   • Hosting A Championship Congratulations on winning your conference regular-season title! As a reward, you get to host the league tournament this weekend, and all of your students are away on break. Now what? This session will examine best practices for hosting conference and NCAA championships. There are big responsibilities and big rewards. Our experts will provide tips based on their prior experiences and will give you advice on how to use the resources at your disposal.   • Take A Break: Work/Life Integration While At the Office Panelists will talk about ways to reduce stress and improve your work/life balance even while you're at the office. Learn things that you can do when you "take a break" and get some relief from your hectic work schedule. Options will be presented regarding exercise and fitness, eating snacks or meals, running errands and other activities to break up your work day. We’ll ask, can your family be involved in one or more aspects of your work to add to your time together? Finally, learn how planning and delegating can help reduce your stress levels.
