CoSIDA Membership Recognition Week Returns November 6-12

Second annual event celebrates SIDs and their impact within collegiate athletics.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, CoSIDA Membership Recognition Week returns this fall to honor athletics communications professionals and their impact on collegiate athletics. The second annual celebration will be held Monday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 12.

The purpose and goals of the weeklong acknowledgement are to show of appreciation for athletic communication and sports information directors, to showcase their efforts and accomplishments, and to bring positive recognition to them and to their work in promoting student-athletes and their institutions/conferences.

"The results for our inaugural Membership Appreciation Week were encouraging," said Doug Vance, CoSIDA's executive director. "We want to build from that success and make this event more meaningful and impactful across the country. It's simply a way to bring more appreciation and recognition to the hard work that goes on every day in our profession."

This year's celebration will feature stories of CoSIDA members on CoSIDA.com; outreach to athletic departments, campus communications offices, conferences offices, related professional organizations and student-athletes; national media mentions; and a social media blitz again centered on the hashtag #ThankYourSID. New this year will be a media/operations kit designed to educate those who connect with the sports information profession.

It is CoSIDA's hope that those who benefit from SIDs' efforts will take a moment during the week to thank athletics communications staff for all they do.

"CoSIDA Membership Recognition Week is an excellent time for institutions, athletic departments and conference offices to thank and acknowledge their sports information staff for all the tireless hard work and the selfless effort done behind-the-scenes to promote their entire athletic programs," said Sam Atkinson, CoSIDA 3rd vice president and the associate athletic director for communications at Gallaudet University.

"It's the little things said and done that can show sports information staff members that they are appreciated," added Atkinson, who is also a charter member of the CoSIDA Membership Recognition Week Committee. "CoSIDA's goal for institutions and conferences, through this program, is to bring positive recognition to these individuals who many times go unnoticed."
