College Sports Information Directors of America

I. Mike Korcek (Northern Illinois), CoSIDA Ethics Committee Chair,   discusses an  issue that had been brought to the attention of the   committee -  altering photos. He discussed several issues regarding   SIDs altering photos for their publications and the ethics surrounding   that - primarily in cases where photos are from newspapers or otherwise   not the property of the sports information office. It was suggested   that a poll question be placed on the CoSIDA website regarding the   issue.

II. President Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt) gave an update on the NCAA   media guide legislation. Several conferences SIDs have met or had   conference calls to make their administrators aware of their position   on the legislation. Also numerous national media have forwarded letters   of concern.

III. Boclair gave an update on the 2004 Academic All-America Hall of   Fame dinner. A memo from Katie Hyde at Millsport confirms that the   dinner will be held in San Diego at the home of Bill and Lori Walton on   July 21, 2004. In addition, an Academic All-America panel discussion   and luncheon and a press conference will be held at The San Diego Hall   of Champions earlier that day.

IV. Boclair said she had also heard from Millsport and their meetings   with a potential sponsor for the Academic All-America program were   looking very promising.

V. Boclair said she had talked to Doug Mitchell?s people about him   possibly being the Kickoff Luncheon speaker for the Calgary Workshop.   The Board asked Boclair to try and nail-down a commitment from Mitchell   as soon as possible.

VI. Boclair said the CoSIDA Midwinter call would be Thursday at 12:30   Eastern.

VII. Boclair asked each CoSIDA Board member to email a bio and photo to   Maxey for the CoSIDA website.

VIII. Boclair had also previously distributed five pages of possible   Board goals for 2004-05 and she asked the board to review them and give   any input on the next call.

IX. First Vice President Rod Commons (Washington State) had provided an   outline of the CoSIDA Workshop program and asked for any input.

X. Commons asked if it was possible to list on the CoSIDA website, or   in the Directory, the sport responsibilities for sports information   staffs at schools where there are numerous staff members. He felt it   would help the media in contacting the right person to help with   specific requests. Past President Pete Moore (Syracuse) said that   information could be solicited when the request for updated staff   information is sent out for 2004-05.

XI. Second Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) emailed the Board   notes from his conference call with the Calgary Host Committee. He said   he now had a call scheduled with the Social Committee to finalize and   confirm aspects of the Workshop Social Schedule.

XII. Third Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) said he was receiving   nominations for the various CoSIDA awards, with a March 19 deadline.

XIII. Director of On-Line Services Maxey Parrish (Waco, Texas) said   there was a lot of activity with the CoSIDA website and that he was   receiving a lot of questions and job postings.

XIV. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said he had finished the   IRS report and sent it in. He said he had also provided information   from Stone Travel for the CoSIDA website and the Digest.

XV. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said the March Digest was   headed to the printer and he was gathering items for the April Digest.   He said he was continuing to work with Jeff Rubin at ICS to merge the   CoSIDA membership  mailing list with the CoSIDA website.

XVI. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston University) said he had   spoken to Jimmy Fills and he said the NIT would be hosting a breakfast   at the Calgary Workshop.

XVII. Carpenter said he had spoken with Chris Gonzalez of Sports   Systems who had proposed an idea of his company providing an on-line   nominating and voting process for the Academic All-America program,   determining a monetary value for that service and becoming a CoSIDA   sponsor at that corresponding level. Carpenter said he would continue   to talk to them about the possibilities.

XIX. Under new business, Boclair said that the American Volleyball   Coaches Association had asked to link to the CoSIDA website. She also   mentioned several emails she had received regarding possible ways for   CoSIDA to save money in the future for the Board to review and consider. The call was adjourned
