SuperLeader #CSCUnite26 Convention - Reg Open

(Officers Call)

  1. I. President Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt) discussed options for a Kickoff Luncheon Speaker and the board made a recommendation of a speaker for Boclair to pursue.
  2. II. Boclair said the Ethics Committee would present a report on the next Board Call.
  3. III. Boclair said that Jack Neumann was working to get more Canadian SIDs involved with the 2004 convention. She said Barb Kowal would be sending information for the Digest and website on preparing for Calgary.
  4. IV. First Vice President Rod Commons (Washington State) asked if there was a site that would show the conversion rate between the American and Canadian dollar. Maxey Parrish said there was one on the Travel Canada and Parrish linked a conversion table to the CoSIDA site during the call.
  5. V. Commons said he had surveyed the CoSIDA committee chairs to see who was planning to attend the Calgary Convention and who would be having meetings. He said he had already received a positive response from seven committee chairs.
  6. VI. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) had a series of questions for Commons on the Workshop Program schedule.
    • He asked if there would be a Past Officer's Dinner. He said he would handle the details of the dinner.
    • He also asked about the timing of the Spouse's Tour and said that would severly hamper his help for Registration. Commons said he would look into it and see if there was an alternate time.
    • Wohlhueter asked why the Kickoff Luncheon would be at the Hyatt, when all other meals were at the Convention Center. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston Univ.) said at least one meal was scheduled at the Hyatt since it was the host hotel. Commons said he would remove the location of the event for now until it was finalized.
  7. VII. Commons said the program committee was considering pulling four to six of what would be the top table topics and use them in an expanded format as a type of panel with a longer time frame so there could be more and easier interaction. He said he would circulate a note to conference SIDs seeking feedback on subjects for the table topics and panels.
  8. VIII. Second Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) said he had a conference call scheduled for Feb. 3 with the Calgary Host Committee to continue work on finalizing the social schedule.
  9. IX. Third Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) said the contact person with Josten's in Canada was gone but Commons gave him another Josten's contact to help with the production and delivery of the CoSIDA awards to Calgary.
  10. X. Director of On-Line Services Maxey Parrish (Waco, Texas) added a link on the CoSIDA website to the Bank of Canada currency converter.
  11. XI. Wohlhueter gave the Treasurer's report. He asked Boclair to forward the information he had provided to her on CoSIDA's financial situation to the secretary for the March Digest. He also said he had taken $50,000 from CoSIDA's investment account to cover expenses during December and January.
  12. XII. Wohlhueter said Stone Travel had negotiated with several airlines to offer the lowest published rates possible, including zone fares. He said he would provide the contact information for the Digest and website.
  13. XIII. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said the February Digest was in the mail and that he was collecting information for the March issue. He also said he was continuing to work with ICS on the on-line directory and importing the memberships into the directory.
  14. XIV. Carpenter said discussions were continuing with a possible sponsor for the Academic All-America program.
  15. XV. Under old business, NCAA proposal 88 was discussed and its possible impact on SIDs.

The call was adjourned.
