CoSIDA Board Conference Call - Feb 2003
College Sports Information Directors of America
CoSIDA BOARD MINUTES
February 5, 2003
I President Alan Cannon (Texas A&M) asked Past President Pete Moore to stay in touch with Millsport (Katie Hyde or Nancy Marazzo) about their search for a new sponsor for the Academic All-America program. Several members of the Board expressed concern about being within a few months of the 2003 Convention and still so much uncertainty about a new sponsor.
II. Cannon discussed the 2003 CoSIDA Winter Call, set for Wednesday, February 26 at noon Eastern. The number to call is (979) 847-9187. Cannon said as many as 30 lines were available, which appeared to be more than adequate based on the response last year.
III. First Vice President Tammy Bocalir (Vanderbilt) discussed several panels that she is working on with the Cleveland host committee for the 2003 CoSIDA Convention program. She said they planned to have a game show type event - possibly The Strongest Link or Family Feud. Some other panels will deal with Respect for SIDs, SIDs and Nutrition, Security issues on campus, a Fashion Show (do's and dont's of wardrobe), Principals of Public Relations and athletic trainers discussing the HIPPA Privacy Act and how SIDs will deal with information on injuries. She said they are also working to set up health screenings at Case Western Reserve University. They have also discussed strategies to encourage SIDs to use the Exhibit Halls more.
IV. Second Vice President Rod Commons (Washington State) said he was revamping the sponsors mailing list and contacting each one personally to update contacts list. He was also in contact with the Cleveland committee about social events for the 2003 convention but didn't have any specifics.
V. Third Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) said all forms for the 2003 CoSIDA awards had been sent to Maxey Parrishf for the web site and Jeff Hodges for the Digest, he was also emailing out PDFs and that he had contacted the members of the Special Awards Committee.
VI. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said room reservation sheets for the 2003 convention would be run in the April Digest.
VII. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) reported that the CoSIDA membership had topped 1,900 for the first time ever. He also said the March Digest was at the printer and included submissions from several CoSIDA committees.
VIII. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston University) talked about his on-going discussions with several potential sponsors.
There was no other old or new business and the call adjourned.
