College Sports Information Directors of America

I. First Vice President Rod Commons (Washington State) said he had received the convention evaluation forms from the Cleveland Workshop and was reviewing them for ideas for the Calgary Workshop.

II. Second Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) said he had been in touch with members of the host group in Calgary and that everything was taking shape for the 2004 Workshop.

III. Director of On-Line Services Maxey Parrish (Waco, Texas) said he had received just three negative emails about charging for job postings and that none had come from schools posting jobs. He said he had posted a couple of dozen jobs and everything was going smoothly. He said there are links from the CoSIDA site to Tourism Calgary, the host hotel and other sites pertaining to the 2004 Workshop. There was a question about when the hotel registration form would be posted and Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said it is usually made available in March.

IV. Wohlhueter gave the Treasurer's Report.

V. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston Univ.) gave an update on the Academic All-America sponsor search.

VI. Howie Davis gave the Board an update on the Cousy Award that will be presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame. He said the Hall of Fame would like to have considerable CoSIDA involvement with the screening committees and CoSIDA members on each committee, appointed by the CoSIDA Board. He said he needed the Boards names by Dec. 1. Suggestions for the positions will be presented to President Tammy Boclair and will be determined on the next Board call and forwarded to Davis. Davis said the award will be presented for the first time in San Antonio at the Final Four.

VII. Fred Nuesch, chairman of the CoSIDA 50th Anniversary Committee, outlined several ideas for the anniversary that he and his committee will be looking at it. That list included such items as a logo, a historical document along the lines of the one done for the 40th Anniversary, a 50th Anniversary pin, reunions of various committees, officers, etc. Carpenter suggested getting video interviews at the Calgary Convention of Past Presidents on the history of the organization.

VIII. Robert Hester presented the Scholarship Committee Report. It addressed the reduction in annual CoSIDA scholarship money from $45,000 to $25,000. Hester said all 27 committee members had input and the committee recommended giving 1 Graduate Internship ($10,000), 2 Postgraduate Scholarships ($10,000) and 2 Undergraduate Scholarships ($5,000). Wohlhueter made a motion that the Board accept the committee's recommendation and Hudson seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

IX. Ray Simmons presented the NCAA Liaison Committee Report. He presented the Board with a copy of proposed NCAA legislation that would affect printed recruiting materials. The proposed legislation says an institution would only be allowed to provide a recruiting brochure/media guide to a recruit through electronic means. The proposed legislation would immediately affect Division I schools but it was felt that if it passed, other divisions might follow. He said it was not an issue that the Board needed to take action on, but that SIDs and schools need to be aware of what is proposed.

X. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said the December Digest was going to Multi-Ad. He said that issue would include the additions or corrections to the CoSIDA Directory that he had received since the Directory was published. He said the number of corrections he had received was in line with what he had received last year when cards were still mailed for CoSIDA updates - rather than through the on-line Directory and email as it was done this year. He said he was continuing to make updates to both the on-line directory and the membership. He said the transition of the membership and mailing list to the on-line Directory was still on-going and that he was continuning to work with ICS on the project.
