COSIDA BUSINESS MEETING
February 17, 2005
I. First Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) conducted the call in President Rod Commons (Washington State) absence. Hernandez said they were set for a final test of the on-line Academic All-America nominating and voting process. He said that Jeff Rubin of ICS had been extremely cooperative in making all changes and adjustments requested.
II. Hernandez said he was working with the CoSIDA Workshop Program Committee to finalize panels and table topics and said everything was moving along well.
III. Second Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) said he had left voice mails and sent emails to Larry Dougherty of Temple regarding buses and other items for the Philadelphia Workshop.
IV. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston University) said he had talked to people at the Franklin Institute and had given them the contact info. for the NBA for that event. He said he was also contacting other potential sponsors to lineup sponsorship for Philadelphia. He said he would be retiring from his SID post at BU on June 30 but would stay at the school one additional year as assistant athletic director for special projects and championships. He said he would like to continue to serve CoSIDA as Director of Marketing.
V. Third Vice President Charles Bloom (Southeastern Conference) gave an update on the awards. He said he was still receiving nominations and had received nominees for every award, except the Backbone Award.
VI. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said he had made the final payment to Millsport for the 2003-04 year and the 2004 Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
VII. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said the current membership for 2004-05 had topped 1,900. He asked for any items for the April Digest.
VIII. Carpenter asked Hodges to forward CoSIDA logos to Brynn Gottsman at ESPN so that she could create the letterhead for the Academic All-America program.
IX. Wohlhueter had previously been asked to come up with a per person or per plate cost for an Academic All-America dinner on the Saturday prior to the Philadelphia Workshop. He said it was very difficult to do with the numerous options ranging from a reception to a banquet. There was a lengthy discussion. Carpenter said he would contact Tim Haggerty at the Marriott in Philadelphia and outline what CoSIDA would like and see what the price options are.
