(Full Board)

I. President Tammy Boclair (Vanderbilt) said she had a call with Jim Millman and asked what it would take for Millsport to continue with the Academic All-America Hall of Fame dinner and finish the spring Academic All-America programs. His email response on May 3 was $15,000.  The board was also informed that Millsport had release Katie Hyde, who had coordinated the program for several years.

Academic All-America Committee Chair Dick Lipe (Bentley) and vice chairs Bernie Cafarelli (Notre Dame), Brian McCann (Cleveland State) and Mark Beckenbach (Ohio Wesleyan) were also on the call. Lipe said there were over 100 committee members on the Academic All-America Committee and he didn't feel that the committee could take on any additional responsibilities, particularly the awards portion. McCann said he wanted to be certain that the high standards set for the program were maintained and wanted to make sure that there was support put in place to cover the details of the program. Cafarelli asked who would act as the day-to-day arm of running the program, and getting out the awards for the Spring. Boclair said that Hyde was mailing materials to her outlining what Millsport has done with the program. Director Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston Univ.) said $50,000 would be provided to cover awards in the proposal CoSIDA is reviewing for Academic All-America sponsorship.  Lipe said there were 2,112 district certificates issued in 2002-03, 1,632 national team plaques (two each of 816 recipients), 288 additional first-team awards, 24 Team of the Year honoree awards and two Academic All-America of the Year awards. The awards were produced by awards.com and shipped to Millsport to distribute. First Vice President Rod Commons suggested calling awards.com and seeing what their capabilities are. Cafarelli said she would hate to see the administration of the program in bits and pieces and would like it under one umbrella. She suggested thought be given to an administrator or key contact as the strategy is developed. McCann said he was concered at the timing of when the committee was brought into the process. Boclair said that trying to make the right decision was everyone's priority  and there was discussion that the AAA chair had been involved in the process for the full two years since Millsport notified the board that they would have to search for a new sponsor.

II. There was a motion made by Third Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) to accept Millsport's proposal that CoSIDA pay $15,000 for Millsport to execute the Academic All-America Hall of Fame dinner, complete the Academic All-America programs for the Spring 2004 and continue the transition of the program - with explicit instructions to confirm the personnel and services Millsport will provide.  Seconded by At-Large Representative Judy Willson (Sun Belt Conference). Passed unanimously.

III. Jack Neumann (Calgary) outlined details of the social functions that he and the host committee had ironed out - including Canada Olympic Park, the Saddledome, and the Calgary Stampeders game. He said money was also being made available to cover costs for professional development at the Workshop.

• Neumann said we need to impress on members to get their registration in for the Banff and Lake Louise trip.
• He said Calgary Transit would sell a three-day mini pass (to cover five days) to CoSIDA by putting the Calgary transit logo on the convention badge. At an estimated 600 attendees, the cost would be $5,400.
• Neumann said he has helped tremendously that he has been planning this event for three years and asked that the board encourage future workshop hosts to get started early.

Treasurer Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.0 and the board thanked Neumann for everything he has done to help make sure the 2004 Workshop is a success.

IV. Wohlhueter made a motion that the transit cost be charged to the professional development grant. Commons seconded and the board passed unanimously. CoSIDA Workshop attendees will receive a free transit pass for the duration of the workshop.

V. Asked what other costs would fall under the professional development, Commons said all audio visual costs would be covered.

VI. There was discussion on a committee to develop a review and report on the Academic All-America program.  Commons said the chair of that committee should be a board member.

VII. Commons covered schedule cards for the Workshop and lanyards.

VIII. Dull said he had the list of CoSIDA award winners and provided that to the board. He said he hoped to have all honorees contacted by Wednesday and would provide the stories and photos to the website and Digest.

IX. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) reminded the board that the June issue of the Digest was headed to the printer and there was a May 20 deadline for the Workshop issue of the Digest if anyone had additional information to provide.

X. Wohlhueter said registrations for the Workshop were continuing to come in, as well as memberships for 2004-05.
