CoSIDA Officer's Board Call - September 14, 2006

I. President Doug Dull (Maryland) said he was putting together the job description for the Director of On-Line Services. He said he had received input from several people and would forward the job description to Maxey Parrish to post on the CoSIDA website. He said he hoped to have the position filled fairly soon.

II. There was discussion of assisting an SID who is making numerous trips for medical treatments for his wife. CoSIDA will pay for one round-trip flight for him. Dull said he would talk to the SID to book the flight and would then get the cost to Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter.

III. Dull said he is working on a list of strategically placed Division I SIDs who can contact other SIDs in their conference or area to get their thoughts on the CoSIDA Workshop.

IV. First Vice President Charles Bloom (SEC) said the group working on research for a possible CoSIDA Executive Director had met via conference call. He said they had broken down the major subjects involved in the process. He said they would meet again on Sept. 22 and hoped to have a rough draft by the next CoSIDA Board call. He said the goal was to have a proposal by Januray of 2007 and he felt they were on target. The committee consist of Bloom, Justin Doherty, Nick Joos, Eric McDowell, Carol Hudson and Judy Willson.

V. There was discussion of the San Diego site visit. The hope was to find a date between Dec. 11-15. Dave Wohlhueter, Ed Carpenter, Doug Dull, Charles Bloom and Nick Joos will make the trip.

VI. Third Vice President Justin Doherty said he had contacted Jeff Rubin of ICS about getting the Special Awards nominating and voting process on-line. Wohlhueter asked if this would create any additional costs with ICS. Doherty said he would continue to work with ICS on the project and would check on that.

VII. Marketing Director Ed Carpenter was not on the call but had provided a marketing update to the board by email. There was discussion about current and potential future CoSIDA sponsors.

VIII. Wohlhueter said the books were closed on the Nashville Workshop. He said CoSIDA initially owed $61,000 to the Renaissance and Nashville Convention Center for food and beverage and room attrition. He said he had already paid $5,000 to the Convention Center and said that after negotiations, the hotel had agreed to one additional payment of $15,000 - making the total paid $20,238.19. The board thanked Wohlhueter and the others who negotiated on CoSIDA's behalf at reaching this resolution.

IX. Wohlhueter said membership renewals were moving slower than expected, approaching the October Academic All-America deadline. He said he was concerned about non-renewals. For the first time no invoices were mailed, but all non-members in the CoSIDA system were sent an invoice by blast email.

X. Secretary Jeff Hodges said the 2006-07 directories were on target to be shipped by October 1 as usual. He asked for any items for the November Digest issue, with an October 1 deadline. The call was adjourned.
