COSIDA BOARD OFFICERS CALL

October 27, 2005

1. I. President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) did a roll call. Third Vice President John Bianco (Texas) was not on the call.
2. II. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter (Ithaca, N.Y.) said the CoSIDA Hurricane Relief effort totalled $51,770.00. At-Large Representative Judy Willson (Louisiana-Monroe) joined the call. Willson said she had been in contact with 29 SIDs who had suffered losses due to the storms. Those 29 had received gift cards from CoSIDA in the immediate aftermath of the storms and she said she was attempting to determine the level of additional need. She said the largest request she had received was for $5,000. It was the decision of the board that a sliding scale be put in place to give $5,000 to the most needy, and work down from there with the money available. Willson said she would complete contacting the SIDs affected and would report back to the board. It was emphasized that CoSIDA wanted to get the money in people's hands as soon as possible.
3. III. There was discussion of a letter to the Board from Bernadette Cafarelli (Notre Dame) regarding the Academic All-America program, and Hernandez written response to her letter.
4. IV. There was discussion of a request for CoSIDA to purchase advertising in a publication by a coaches association. It was felt that CoSIDA should not purchase the ad, since there was no way CoSIDA could do similar advertising or sponsorship with the numerous other coaches associations. Hernandez said he would respond to the request and report back to the board.
5. V. First Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) said he would be going to Nashville to meet with the local organizing committee for the 2006 Workshop.
6. VI. Second Vice President Charles Bloom (Southeastern Conference) said he had a conference call with the Social Committee. He said it was a productive call. The committee divided responsibilities and Bloom said he felt good about the committee's ideas and direction for the Nashville Workshop.
7. VII.Wohlhueter asked Marketing Director Ed Carpenter (Boston, Mass.) about potential ad sales for the CoSIDA Directory. Carpenter said he had not devoted a lot of attention to it but would look at it. Wohlhueter felt it could be a great source of revenue for CoSIDA.
8. VIII. Carpenter said he had been in touch with Jeff Rubin at ICS and they were working out details of their contract with CoSIDA. He said it was taking a while because they wanted to be sure Jeff included everything that ICS is doing for CoSIDA in the contract.
9. IX. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said CoSIDA membership was ahead of where it normally was at this time of year. He said more than 1,900 members had been registered in the on-line system. He said the 2005-06 Directory had been mailed to all state distributors and members. He said he had received the updated CoSIDA letterhead and had mailed some to each board member. He asked for any items for the December Digest be to him by November 1.
10. X. Hernandez said the next call would be a full board call on Nov. 10, but there would be no call on Nov. 24 due to Thanksgiving.

There was no old or new business and the call was adjourned.
