District winners announced for the 2024-25 CSC Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest
More than 110 articles written by College Sports Communicators members have been honored as district winners in the 2024-25 Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.
CSC members in all eight districts submitted nearly 500 articles in seven categories. For the second straight year, the contest was split into University and College divisions, allowing the recognition of the work done by members from smaller offices and those who work on NCAA Division I staffs.

District winners advance to the national ballot, with national winners in each of the seven categories to be announced later this month.
Leading the way with five district first-place nods was Brandon Vickrey of Valparaiso, while Graham Hays (Vanderbilt), Mike Brohard (Colorado State), Jake Knabel (Concordia, Nebraska), and Adam Greene (Carson-Newman) all had four submissions selected as best in district.
In what is believed to be a first in the history of the contest, one story won honors in multiple districts. “Breaking Down Baseball Barriers,” co-written by David Cataloni of UMass-Boston and Antonio Arredondo of George Fox, was the winner in the Social Justice/Diversity & Inclusion category in both District 1 and District 8.
All writing had to have an original publish date between January 1-December 31, 2024 to be eligible.
