Florida A&M's Hollins Heads to Hall

Veteran Sports Information Director Alvin Hollins heads the 30th class slated for enshrinement into the Florida A&M University Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, September 2, in ceremonies at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.
- The induction ceremonies will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Civic Center, with a reception for the inductees to be held immediately afterwards.
- On Saturday, the 2005 Wall of Fame Ceremonies will be conducted in the Jake Gaither Athletic Center gymnasium, as bronze plaques for previous and current honorees will be unveiled.
- Saturday night during the FAMU-Delaware State football game at Bragg Memorial Stadium (7 p.m.), the eight inductees will be recognized at halftime.
Joining Holmes in the 2005 Class of eight sports personalities will be: All-America linebacker Earl "Hitman" Holmes ; Alexander "Al" Davis, Baseball; Walter Kennedy, Basketball; Anthony "Tony" Messina,Coach; Frank Merchant,Football and Donyale Ferguson,Women's Basketball.
HOLLINS, ALVIN (Supporter, 1979-Present) - Hollins has served as the sports information director at Florida A&M since 1979, coordinating the publicity for the school's 18-sport athletic program. He was responsible for the production of publications, game reports and performance records for the program's various sports as well as promoting of student-athletes for all-star honors. A winner of several awards for his work during his tenure, Hollins was named "Black College SID of the Year" in 1990 and 1998 and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference "SID of the Year" in 1996. Founded in 1976, the FAMU Sports Hall of Fame has honored over 200 former athletes, coaches and supporters of the school's storied athletic program.
