Former South Alabama and USF SID Fred Huff passes away

Fred Joseph Huff, who was formerly an athletic communications/sports information professional at the University of South Florida and South Alabama, passed away Oct. 1 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 58. Beginning as a young assistant SID at South Alabama, he was elevated to the director's position for seven years before going to USF.
Huff was the son of the late Fred Huff, a CSC Hall of Famer (inducted in 2012) and a CSC Lifetime Achievement Award honoree who was the lead sports publicist for 35 years at Southern Illinois, serving as an assistant AD/sports information director. The elder Huff passed away March 18, 2023 at the age of 94.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, Monday, October 7, 2024 at 2 p.m. Visitation is at Searby Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Monday, October 7, 2024 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests support for NubAbility Athletics Foundation of Du Quoin or Southern Illinois Hospice in Marion.
