Gagne Named to Interim Post at Bates
College Sports Information Directors of America
Matt Gagne, a 2004 Bates graduate, has been named interim sports information director at Bates College. He replaces Aaron Todd, who leaves Bates to become the sports information director at Merrimack College.
Gagne graduated from Bates in May with a degree in English. He interned in the Sports Information Office for four years as a student, briefly overseeing the office on an interim basis the beginning of his junior year. He also free-lanced for Bates Magazine.
Gagne was co-editor-in-chief of the Bates Student his senior year and sports editor his junior year. He also free-lanced as a sportswriter, working for the Lewiston Sun Journal, the Portland Press Herald and Foster’s Daily Democrat (Dover, N.H.).
The summer after graduation Gagne attended the Columbia Publishing Course, an intense six-week program covering all aspects of book and magazine publishing. This fall he worked as a sportswriter for the Concord Monitor and the Nashua Telegraph in New Hampshire. He also free-lanced for Varsity New England, a start-up regional magazine dedicated to high school sports.
As a student, Gagne also directed intramural sports programs on campus and coached a fifth- and sixth-grade basketball team for two years in Lewiston.
