Hanes Takes Job at Georgia State

CSC News,

College Sports Information Directors of America

Jason Hanes has been named Georgia State's first full-time Assistant Sports Information Director, effective July 1. The announcement was made by Director of Sports Information Carlton D. White.

"While many casual Georgia State fans may only know him from his work on Panther basketball broadcasts, Jason is a very talented writer and dedicated worker," said White. "He has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the perfect person for this position."

Hanes is a veteran of Georgia State media, serving at the Georgia State Signal, Georgia State Televison (GSTV), and most recently on the Georgia State Radio Network. During his time at GSTV, Hanes was the "Voice of the Panthers" for broadcasts of men's and women's basketball games on the on-campus station. He was behind the microphones for two memorable moments in State's men's basketball history: the win over Georgia at the Georgia Dome in December of 2001 and the buzzer-beating win over Belmont at the Sports Arena in February 2002 which clinched the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship.

After leaving the television microphones, Hanes began working for the Sports Communications office, assisting with keeping statistics, public address announcing, and other various duties required to facilitate game day operations. In April 2003, Hanes was hired on an interim basis to handle sports information duties for Lady Panther softball. He was kept on staff after that on a part-time basis as the sports information director for volleyball and softball. During this period, he also started work for the Georgia State Radio Network, serving as host of "Panther SportsTalk" and an alternate play-by-play voice on men's basketball and baseball games.

In July of 2005, Hanes was named Web Content Coordinator. He oversaw the transition from the former GeorgiaStateSports.com to its current form. In December, Hanes transitioned from working with softball to working with baseball.

Hanes will continue to work with volleyball and baseball, in addition to adding various other duties in the Sports Communications office. He will also continue to work for the Georgia State Radio Network as host of "Panther SportsTalk."
