It's award season
There are two ongoing award nominations right now for College Sports Communicators — for 2022-23 Special Awards and 2023 Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
Please take a moment to review the criteria for each award and nominate deserving colleagues for a Special Award and nominate your deserving former Academic All-America honorees for the prestigious AAA Hall of Fame.
In addition to the awards listed below, nominations for the inaugural CSC 30 Under 30 recognition will remain open through Oct. 15.
Of note: Nominations and submissions for other CSC awards and honors will open up later this academic year. These include Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, Publications and Digital Design and Changemaker Awards. Several new awards will be announced soon, too, so stay tuned!

Here are the awards that current CSC members may nominate for. All voting for these awards are done by the CSC Special Awards Committee, unless noted otherwise.
CSC Hall of Fame
Criteria: Awarded to members of College Sports Communicators who have made outstanding contributions to the field of college athletics communications. There are three categories: University Division (NCAA Division I), College Division (NCAA DII, III, NAIA, Canadian or two-year members) and Veterans (retired/deceased/those who left the profession). Voted on by current CSC Hall of Fame Members and the Special Awards Committee.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Presented to individuals who have served at least 25 years in the athletics communications profession (as of July 2023) who are retiring or leaving the profession. You may self-nominate for this honor.
25-Year Award
Presented to current CSC members who have completed 25 years in the athletics communications profession (as of July, 2023). You may self-nominate for this honor.
Achievement Award
Presented to two current CSC members - one from the University (NCAA Division I) division and one from the College Division (NCAA DII, III, NAIA, Canadian or two-year) - who currently serve in an associate or assistant director position for outstanding contributions and commitment to the profession. The award winner cannot have served as a director in athletic communications.
Warren Berg Award
Presented to a current CSC member from the College Division (NCAA DII, DIII, NAIA, Two-year Colleges, and Canadian institutions) who has made outstanding contributions to the field of college athletics communications, and who by his or her activities, has brought dignity and prestige to the profession.
Bill Esposito Backbone Award
Award goes to a current CSC member who displays sound judgment and unusual courage in guiding his/her institution, conference office or collegiate athletics-affiliated association through a difficult public relations situation.
Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award
Presented to a current CSC member who is a pioneer in the field of athletic communications who has mentored and helped improve the level of diversity within CSC.
Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award
Presented to a current CSC member for civic involvement, community service and accomplishments within and/or outside of the athletics communications profession.
Bud Nangle Award
Presented to an individual (in or outside of CSC) who embodies the ideals of intercollegiate athletics by showing ethics, integrity, compassion and/or bravery in a singular act or under an unusual or stressful personal or professional situation.
Rising Star Award
Presented to current CSC members in the University Division (NCAA DI) and in the College Division (NCAA DII, DIII, NAIA, Two-year Colleges, Canadian institutions). Recipients are those with 10 years of service or less whose work, service, dedication and enthusiasm to the profession make that individual a "rising star" in sports communications.
Jake Wade Award
Presented to an individual in the media who has made an outstanding contribution in the media to the field of intercollegiate athletics.
Arch Ward Award
Presented a current College Sports Communicators member - in any division - who has made outstanding contributions to the field of college athletics communications, and who has brought dignity and prestige to the profession.
TO NOMINATE:
- Using your 2022-23 CSC member login, log into the Special Awards portal at CollegeSportsCommunicators.com/Awards.
- Click on the "Special Awards" graphic.
- Click the "begin a new submission" link.
- You fill out a page with YOUR information as the nominator. Hit "Save and Next" when done.
- On the next page, you'll list the first and last name of the NOMINEE (if you are self-nominating, go ahead and fill your information in again here).
- From the dropdown, select the appropriate award you are nominating for and navigate to that portal to begin your specific nomination and submit your nomination(s).
You can save and go back to an unfinished nomination.
Again, SELF-NOMINATIONS are welcome for the 25-Year Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Please review the criteria and make sure you are recognized!
Academic All-America Hall of Fame

Nomination deadline: November 4, 2022
To be eligible, an Academic All-America® must have:
- Received a nomination by his/her alma mater’s sports information director.
- Earned Academic All-America® Team honors during his/her collegiate career or must meet the criteria for an Honorary Inductee.
- Graduated with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
- Received college diploma at least 10 years ago.
- Proven career success and philanthropic service.
To nominate:
- You must have a current CSC membership to nominate. Any nominations submitted after November 4, 2022 will be considered for the Class of 2024.
- To begin the nomination process, go to CollegeSportsCommunicators.com/Awards. Log in with your current CSC username and password and then select the Academic All-America® Hall of Fame Nominations banner link to begin your nomination.
- If you nominated a former student-athlete online in the last 10 years, you'll have access to those nomination forms to update. Click on "Complete" in the dashboard to find your nomination. You can edit and save nominations through Friday, November 4.
