From the Desk of President Jessica Poole – New year, new mark!
by Jessica Poole – 2022-23 College Sports Communicators President @JessPooleA2
Chicago State University, Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer
Friends, I hope that your holidays were filled with belly laughs, catching up with friends and family and truly enjoying being present with your loved ones. Big Will and I had a blast with friends and family and this year the presents were equally as interesting as the wrapping paper so I’m going to count it as a win!
As the calendar turns to 2023, College Sports Communicators continues its rebranding today with the introduction of new marks and color schemes. Yes, I’m biased, but I think you will love the new look. The Executive Board of Directors along with CSC Staff and our strategic branding working group along with our consultant, Joe Bosack, worked hard to get this just right and make sure it truly reflected who we are as an organization.
When we embarked on this strategic rebrand we really started with our All-In membership model, which aimed to help us create a membership more inclusive of all across the intercollegiate athletics landscape who communicate, which then led us to a more inclusive name and here we are today, sharing with you a logo and color schemes that we feel include everyone.
If you know anything about me as a person inclusion is one of my personal core values so seeing a logo that represents all who communicate in our field, no matter whether its through written communication, social media, videography, graphic design or photography is deeply personal.
My personal favorite part of this new logo is the quarter C and what it truly represents for our organization.
There are six quarter circles that make up our new mark. There are six divisions that make up our College Sports Communicators membership. If you remove any of these divisions or quarter circles, we aren’t whole.
We can also expand that to our membership. If we don’t have any of our Divisions and all of those who are communicators including administrators, we aren’t seeing the whole story.
History is also very important to me so keeping the blue in our logo was very important.
Blue as a color represents trust, intelligence and loyalty. These are words that are the backbone of our organization and will continue to be defining terms for our industry as we move forward.
Orange represents communication and creativity. A very fitting color for an industry that has been built on communication and who has long used creativity to enhance storytelling efforts.
This logo and color schemes truly embody who College Sports Communicators are.
We are stronger together.
We are trustworthy.
We are intelligent.
We are loyal.
We are communicative.
We are creative.
This creative, modern new logo and color scheme takes us to another level as an organization. Our industry has changed so much in the course of the last decade and this fresh new identity shows our colleagues within the college athletics landscape that we aren’t afraid of change, that we in fact embrace it and will use it as a way to propel our industry and organization forward.
That’s one heck of a way to start 2023 my friends!
Until next month,
Jess
