College Sports Information Directors of America

• I. President Rod Commons (Washington State) reviewed the Academic All-America Hall of Fame members who had notified him that they planned to attend the Philadelphia Workshop. He said members of the Washington State sports info. staff would help serve as liaisons with the attendees.
• II. He also said that Dick Enberg had contacted the prospective Enberg Award recipient and Commons said he would check back to make sure that the recipient would be able to attend.
• III. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter said the inductees should contact Stone Travel to book their flights. There was discussion over the number of hotel rooms available to each inductee. Commons said it was limited to rooms for their immediate family members.
• IV. There was discussion about a possible VIP reception or breakfast to bring in any potential sponsors for the Academic All-America Hall of Fame program to meet the Hall of Fame inductees present. No final decision was reached.
• V. Commons said he had been contacted about a possible sponsors for the Academic All-America Hall of Fame program. There was discussion that the board should proceed with caution and Commons said he would return the call and see what they had to present. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter (Boston Univ.) said ESPN would have the first right of refusal on sponsorship of the program.
• VI. There was discussion about payment to Awards.com for the Academic All-America plaques. Wohlhueter said he had received an invoice and had already paid half of the bill. Carpenter asked Wohlhueter to forward copies of the invoices to him and he would forward them to ESPN for payment.
• VII. First Vice President Joe Hernandez (Ball State) said the testing for the Academic All-America on-line process was moving.
• VIII. Hernandez said that the Philadelphia Workshop schedule was finalized and he had forwarded copies to the Board and schedules were posted on the CoSIDA website and had been run in the Digest. He said he was scheduling the committee meetings and room assignments.
• IX. Second Vice President Doug Dull (Maryland) discussed the social events. He said Larry Dougherty (Temple) of the local organizing committee was talking with the NBA about the Sunday Franklin Institute function. He said buses were scheduled at a total cost of $1,200. He said ESPN’s function would be Monday. The Sports Illustrated Brunch is Sunday from 10 til noon. He said the Tuesday picnic would be at Franklin Field. There was discussion and it was decided that there would be no beer at the picnic, partially to create a family atmosphere and also because of liquor license issues. He said Lenn Margolis of Cheyney was setting up a golf outing with foursomes at a local course on Sunday morning. Dull said breakfast sponsors were also coming in at a great rate.
• X. Third Vice President Charles Bloom (Southeastern Conference) said letters had been sent to all the CoSIDA award winners and releases had been done.
• XI. Carpenter said the NIT would have a breakfast for the board in Philadelphia. He said sponsorship from Marriott was down to $2,500 and said he had also received sponsorship money ($2,500) from the National Football Foundation. He reviewed other sponsorships and said Fox College Sports was a $5,000 sponsor and the Arena Football League was providing $3,000 sponsorship.
• XII. There was renewed discussion about contacting CBS again about sponsorship. Bloom said he would check with CBS.
• XIII. Secretary Jeff Hodges (North Alabama) said he needed to get a finalized schedule for the Digest. He said that Schaffhauser Design had renewed its Digest ad for another three months and said Virtual SID was also advertising for another month for a total of $1,200 in income. He said he had emailed Wayne Block, Matt Newbery and others to get updated Digest info. prior to the early deadline for the Workshop issue.
• XIV. Wohlhueter reviewed the number of registrations received for Philadelphia Workshop. He said 152 had pre-registered.
• XV. There was discussion about legal council for CoSIDA. Wohlhueter said he would check with the Kansas City firm that does CoSIDA’s taxes and report back to the board.
