Conference announcement 101
In September, the Atlantic Sun Conference welcomed the University of West Georgia as its newest member. Here's a look behind the scenes of how the strategic communications team executed the announcement.

The Atlantic Sun's (ASUN) Strategic Communications team worked in collaboration with the University of West Georgia to prepare for the announcement. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the move on September 8, 2023, and the ASUN staff immediately went to work on the announcement. Kendrell Watkins, Associate Commissioner of Digital Strategies, began working with his team consisting of Assistant Director of Digital Strategies, Mykenzie Hunt, and Assistant Director for Video Content, Patrick Catezone. Hunt put out graphics on the conference's main social media pages. Catezone put together a video welcoming UWG to the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The ASUN's Assistant Commissioner of Communications, William Hall, led all communication efforts on behalf of the league. His team worked with UWG on creating the article that was published on the conference’s website, www.asunsports.org. Hall worked with his four-member staff consisting of Morgan Huttenlocker (Director for Sport Administration & Communications), Mike DeVader (Associate Director for Communications), and Fasika Ishiyama (Assistant Director for Communications). The group took the photos that were provided by the University of West Georgia's Athletic Department to share with the conference's sports-specific social media accounts on X.

On September 12, 2023, the entire Atlantic Sun staff went to Carrollton, Georgia for the university's Elevation Celebration. Morgan Huttenlocker took photos of the event for social media as well as the conference's website. Fasika Ishiyama put together video footage for the conference’s TikTok and Instagram. Meanwhile, Kendrell Watkins compiled more video footage for Patrick Catezone to edit for a recap video which was released a week after the event took place. Mike DeVader clipped footage of the ESPN+ broadcast to promote the event while Mykenzie Hunt prepared all content and digital media for release. William Hall oversaw the entire operation making sure content was released according to plan and error-free.
