College Sports Information Directors of America

Chris Poore has been named Sports Information Director at Belmont Abbey College. Poore is the colleges first ever full-time SID and is responsible for the distribution of information regarding the Abbeys 16 varsity and two junior varsity teams.

This is a very exciting time at Belmont Abbey and the hiring of a full-time SID will put more focus on the accomplishments of our student athletes, said Director of Athletics Eliane Kebbe. Chris has experience working in several different college athletics programs and his knowledge, ability and dedication to the job will only strengthen the department as a whole.

Poore comes to Belmont Abbey from the College of William & Mary, where he served as Assistant Sports Information Director over the past five years. His primary focus with the Tribe was with the womens soccer, volleyball, womens basketball and baseball teams and he also assisted with football and mens basketball on home game days.

Prior to his arrival in Williamsburg, Poore earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management at Georgia Southern University in 1999 and served as the sports information intern at the University of South Carolina for two and a half years after graduation. At GSU, Poore worked in the sports information office and as an equipment manager with the football team.

While at USC, the Columbia, SC native served as the primary contact with the baseball and swimming and diving teams and also coordinated player interviews for football and mens basketball. Poore experienced success with the Gamecocks baseball team when it was ranked number one in the country for five weeks in 2000 and pitcher Kip Bouknight earned four National Player of the Year awards.

I am very excited to be the Sports Information Director at Belmont Abbey, Poore stated. As a native of the Carolinas, it was very important for me to move closer to my family after living in Virginia for five years. I was in a great situation at William & Mary, but the opportunity to be a Sports Information Director, especially at a Catholic institution, was too good to pass up. I would like to thank Eliane Kebbe for giving me this wonderful opportunity, and I look forward to promoting the Abbey, its teams and its outstanding student-athletes.
