Safford named Cascade Conference SID of the Year

For the second time in his seven years at The College of Idaho, sports information director, Mike Safford Jr., was named the recipient of the Mike Booth SID of the Year award, announced today by the Cascade Conference office in Portland, Ore.
Safford, who also won the award in 2003, was honored by his peers in balloting at the close of the 2007-08 school year. His athletic publications have placed among the NAIA-SIDA Top-10 on 16 occasions, including a pair of ŒBest in the Nation² awards, while maintaining key relationships with Treasure Valley media members that have helped increase the visibility of C of I athletics in the community.
"I truly believe that there isn't just one SID of the Year each year," said Safford. "Each of us who are fortunate to be in media relations positions work together to help promote the activities of our school, conference, and the NAIA - and all of us work hard at it. I am honored that my peers believe in me, as many of them deserve this award as well - and I appreciate the help Marty Holly and the C of I staff give me day in and day out to make my job as easy as possible."
Safford has also been the radio voice of the Coyotes for the last seven years, helping out on network broadcasts of basketball and baseball games at NAIA Championships. He will begin his fourth season as the voice of the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League later this month. Since coming to Caldwell in 2001, he has broadcast over 600 games on the radio and internet.
The award, which was established in 2002, is given to the top sports information director in the CCC following a voting process among the eleven league schools. It is named after Mike Booth, the longtime CCC SID and league treasurer who passed away in 2005.
