Social Media Practices of College Athletic Departments

Social media, also known as Fan-Generated Media (blogs, fan forums, online social networks, etc.), is a rapidly growing and changing entity. Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of meaningful and valid research pertaining to this highly influential media realm. In May of 2008 Sports Media Challenge (SMC) conducted a survey in conjunction with the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to determine the use and understanding of Fan-Generated Media (FGM) by college and university athletic departments.

College/University athletic departments are almost universally affected by FGM, but the level of that affect changes depending on the size of the school and its NCAA division of competition: Click here to view the full details of the study (Adobe.pdf)
