Stanton named SID at VCU

Virginia Commonwealth University has named Phil Stanton its sports information director.

Stanton worked in the sports information office at the University of Richmond for 12 years (1989-2001), including eight as director. For the past two years, Stanton worked on CollegeBaseballInsider.com, a web site devoted to Division I baseball. Since December, he also taught math at ITT Technical Institute.

A native of Chillicothe, Ohio, Stanton earned a bachelor's degree in statistics from Ohio State University in 1978 and received a master’s degree in statistics one year later. Following graduation, he taught in the math department and was sports information director at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. Stanton worked with the Richmond Braves for three years from 1986-88.

Stanton has been a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, National Collegiate Basketball Writers Association and past president of the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
