The Collegiate Licensing Company Names Top Selling Universities and Manufacturers

The University of Texas at Austin, EA Sports, Knights Apparel, and J & W Interest Inc. lead CLC's year-end rankings

ATLANTA, Ga., (August 26, 2010) - The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), a division of IMG Worldwide, is pleased to announce its annual list of top-selling institutions and manufacturers. These rankings represent royalties reported July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 on all collegiate merchandise sold.

Notes of interest:

  • This marked the fifth consecutive year The University of Texas at Austin ranked No. 1 in CLC’s fiscal year-end rankings.
  • The University of Alabama moved from No. 5 to No. 2 due to the success of its National Championship season and the largest National Champions merchandise program in CLC history.
  • University of Kentucky was the biggest mover amongst top-20 institutions. The University gained five positions and finished the year at No. 8.
  • For the first time in CLC history, Knights Apparel Inc. occupied the top spot as the No. 1 collegiate apparel licensee. Knights Apparel is the largest supplier of collegiate apparel to Walmart and the mass/discount retail channel. Prior to the 2009-10 fiscal year, Nike USA Inc. held the position of top apparel licensee since 1999.
  • EA Sports maintained its No.1 status in non-apparel licensees since Q3 of 2003.
  • Fabrique Innovations jumped to the No. 2 non-apparel licensee due to the success of its Snuggie program.
  • Upper Deck debuted in the non-apparel top 25 list at No. 6, shortly after securing exclusive rights to the trading card category.
  • Top local licensee J & W Interests Inc., a State College, Pennsylvania-based collegiate apparel and non-apparel manufacturer and retailer, produces and sells officially licensed product for The Pennsylvania State University.
  • Top royalty producing non-apparel categories for CLC’s fiscal year-end included video games, domestic, housewares, and home furnishings.
  • Top apparel categories for 2009-10 included T-shirts, performance, headwear, and youth. Royalties from collegiate T-shirts now represent a quarter of all collegiate apparel.
