Hear from this group of college athletic leaders from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NJCAA as they discussed strategies and worked through scenarios as it pertains to the upcoming 2021 winter and spring sports seasons in the CoVID-19 pandemic. The discussion centered around the hot-button issues and topics as we face changes, heavy scheduling and prioritizing of competitions, game operations and events, taking care of the mental health of staff and student-athletes, legal policies and ramifications of competing during the pandemic, adjusting competitive and traveling cycles, review of safety measures, and so much more in upcoming, unprecedented spring semester.
Some of the questions addressed included:
- What has been the hardest part for each presenter, from your aspect of college athletics administration, about transitioning sports into a COVID world?
- What is your department’s plan if COVID-19 forced, or forces you or members of your staff, into quarantine? Especially at the college division level, most are short-staffed to begin with.
- How are you managing expectations and planning the composite schedule with your supervisors and coaches?
- How do you work with coaches to ensure that they, and their student-athletes, understand the demands of time management/staffing/facility strain in the spring where many athletic programs will have all, or most, of their sports in season?
