College Sports Information Directors of America

Clayton State University announced on Monday the hiring of Lee Wright as its new sports information director. Wright, who replaces Gid Rowell in that position, comes to Clayton State after serving three-plus years in a similar capacity at NCAA Division III Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C. His day in his new position was Monday.

The move to Clayton State will be Wright's fifth position in his eight years in the sports information field. Prior to serving at Methodist, he spent two years as the sports information director and compliance director at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., and one year each as an assistant sports information director at both Life University in Marietta, Ga., and the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga.

In addition, Wright also served as a sports writer at the Marietta Daily Journal for three years.

In addition to moving up professionally, family was big reason for Wright's decision to take the sports information director position at Clayton State. His wife, Jennifer, was born and raised in the west Atlanta suburb of Douglasville, Ga., and her mother still resides there. Plus, his parents moved from Chattanooga, Tenn., down to the north Georgia area of Calhoun, Ga., three years ago.

Having worked previously in the Atlanta area, the position at Clayton State appears to be a perfect fit for Wright both professionally and personally.

"I became familiar with Clayton State during my time at both Life and West Georgia, and have always thought very highly of the program," Wright said. "This is a growing program with a dynamic Athletic Director in Mason Barfield. I am excited about being a part of it as it continues to grow over the next few years."

Wright came to Methodist as the Sports Information Director in August, 2002. During his tenure, he has worked hard at improving athletic website, the media guides for specific sports teams, and has helped implement internet webcasting for certain Methodist athletic events. In addition, Wright served as media coordinator for the 2005 NCAA Division III Womens Golf National Championships, plus the 2003 Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Womens Basketball Tournament, the 2003 DIAC Lacrosse Tournament and the 2004 USA South Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament.

He is a 1995 graduate from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga with a bachelor's degree in communications.
