CoSIDA Officer's Board Call - November 9, 2006

I. President Doug Dull said he had received 25 applications for the Director of Internet Services position and was forwarding those to the search committee. He said the committee would then narrow it down to three or four to conduct phone interviews with. There was discussion about what to do with any candidates that have shown interest after the deadline and the board said no late entries would be added. Dull asked that any board members who have strong feelings about any of the candidates to email their thoughts to him by November 20.

II. Dull asked the committee liaisons to contact their committee chairs to check in. New board member Will Roleson was asked to be the liaison for the Writing Contest.

III. First Vice President Charles Bloom said a kickoff speaker for the San Diego Workshop had been extended an invitation and he is waiting to get a confirmation.

IV. Bloom also asked if a blast email from the NCAA in advance of the graduate rates release was helpful. Many of the board members did not receive it but many did and said it helped be prepared.

V. Second Vice President Nick Joos said that the San Diego Padres would be at home from Monday-Thursday during the CoSIDA Workshop in San Diego.

VI. Third Vice President Justin Doherty said the executive director process was moving forward. He said the committee had reached a point where it needed to involve more people in the process.

VII. Doherty said on-line nominating and voting for the CoSIDA awards was in place and he thanked ICS for its assistance. He asked for board volunteers to send in sample nominations to test the system and got five volunteers. Doherty also forwarded the link to all board members to look at. The nomination link will be password protected and nominators must be CoSIDA members to access the system and nominate a candidate.

VIII. Director of Marketing Ed Carpenter said he had talked to the Athlete Alumni Network about the possibility of sending an email to all 11,000 Academic All-America nominees, congratulating them and making them aware of their services. There were questions about privacy issues in giving out student-athletes email addresses. There was further discussion that the SIDs at each school could forward the information to their nominees.

IX. Carpenter said he had begun contacting people interested in the Marketing Committee and said he would like to have a conference call in the coming weeks. Dull said he would like to have something to look at and talk about from the Marketing Committee about the marketability of CoSIDA. Dull said he would like to have something by February 1. Carpenter said he would notify Dull of the date and time of the conference call and would include him on the call.

X. Treasurer Dave Wohlhueter said memberships for 2006-07 were are 2,095, with 2,034 active, associate or student members and 61 lifetime members.

XI. There was discussion about the fall nomination process for the Academic All-America program. Past President Pete Moore said it was much smoother than the first year and he said that everyone who contacted him in the final days was accomodated.

XII. Secretary Jeff Hodges said letterhead had been mailed to all board members, directories had been mailed to all distributors and members and December Digests were expected back from the printer. He said there had been hardly any corrections sent to him for the directory, indicating that the on-line directory is as current and accurate as it has been. There was discussion of the timeline for the Directory and Hodges explained that the information is not extracted from the system until August 1 because of all the job changes over the summer and updates at the Workshop. He said the editing and printing process annually had the book in the mail by mid to late September.

XIII. College Division Representative Blake Timm said he wanted inform the board that the NAIA National Office had significantly cut its sports information department and was restructuring.

XIV. Wohlhueter asked if the officers needed to have another call before their site visit to San Diego. A call was set for 3:30 p.m. Central on November 28. The call was adjourned.
