SMU Names Sutton Ass't AD

Brad Sutton has been named assistant athletic director for media relations at SMU, Athletic Director Jim Copeland announced. Sutton replaces Chris Walker, who will remain at SMU as the newly-appointed associate athletic director for development. Sutton will be the primary media relations contact for football and men's basketball, while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the media relations department and the publicity efforts of SMU's 20 varsity sports. Sutton, 30, has spent the last two seasons at SMU as the associate director of media relations, handling basketball, volleyball, track and field and cross country. He came to the Hilltop after spending two seasons as an Assistant director of media relations at the University of Colorado, where he served as the primary contact for men's basketball as well as men's and women's tennis. Prior to Colorado, Sutton spent two years at the University of Kentucky as a media relations assistant, covering Kentucky's baseball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's soccer, men's golf and women's tennis teams. Sutton interned in the Sports Information Office at Florida State from 1997-98. A native of Henderson, Ky., Sutton earned a master's degree in sport management from the University of Kentucky in 2000, and his bachelor's degree from Transylvania University in 1996. Sutton and his wife, Erin, have a 10-month old daughter, Catesby.
